What are Direct Cremation Services?

Direct cremation generally takes place without a funeral wake held beforehand. It is usually held on the same day as the passing or at most up to two days after depending on the availability of the crematorium.

The casket will be brought to the crematorium’s service hall after preparation, and family members and relatives will be given a chance to take their final viewing and bid their final farewell before the casket is being closed again and sent for cremation right after.

Essential religious rites and blessing services can be held at this time as well.

Why do some people choose Direct Cremation Services?

  • Some families have limitations on resources to hold a funeral wake over a few days. Eg. manpower, financial, schedule etc. A direct cremation service provides a simple and dignified farewell for their loved ones at an affordable rate.
  • For those who have a small number of close family members or those whose loved ones are living abroad, a direct cremation service allows for a farewell that can be arranged quickly without the need for travel.
  • It can be the wishes of the deceased and their loved ones to have a more intimate, private service without the expense and complexity of a traditional funeral.

What is the process of direct cremation?

This is what you can expect to happen during a direct cremation. The process can take place within one day and includes steps such as identifying the deceased and authorization from relevant authorities before transporting the body to the crematorium and holding the service there.

During this time, family members may say goodbye or have rites of passage.Once at the crematorium, the cremation process can proceed. The ashes can then be collected after cremation, and interred into a niche, or scattered in the sea or garden according to the family’s wishes.

Things to prepare for a Direct Cremation Service

  • A complete set of clothing (including undergarments) for the deceased
  • Favourite items of the deceased to be placed in the casket
  • Identification documents of the deceased and next-of-kin
  • Any last wishes for the deceased
  • Choice of burial method and choice of urn (for those laid to rest at columbarium)

Due to its no-frills nature, direct cremation remains the most affordable option for burial services in Singapore. Embrace Funeral Service’s direct cremation package starts from $1,600.

Yes. Families and friends are allowed to attend the final rites at the crematorium. We can make provisions for small private sessions for close friends and family to pay your final respects and bid your final farewell.

The bereaved family may opt for a short ceremonial service depending on the deceased or the family’s religious leanings. Do note that these ceremonies will not be as elaborate as a full-fledged religious service.

After cremation, the bereaved family may choose to lay their loved one to rest in any columbarium, scatter into the sea or amongst the greenery of the inland Garden of Peace.
